Traffic on the M6 northbound near Knutsford has returned to normal after a four-vehicle collision caused a car fire and major delays. The incident occurred just before junction 19, prompting a full closure of all lanes while emergency services dealt with the blaze.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that one vehicle was on fire upon arrival, but firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using a hose reel jet. A thermal imaging camera was used to monitor the vehicle. No serious injuries were reported, though one person is believed to have sustained minor injuries and was treated by the North West Ambulance Service.
An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News that a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) and a car collided, causing a knock-on effect on several other vehicles. One car reportedly flipped over in the crash. All occupants were accounted for and safe.
Three lanes were initially closed but have since reopened. Lane four was the first to reopen to help ease traffic congestion. Drivers were urged to avoid the area during the incident, but delays have now cleared.
