The M5 motorway near Bristol has been closed in both directions due to a police-led incident, causing severe delays for motorists. The closure is between junctions 18 and 19 southbound, and from junction 21 to 18 northbound, near Avonmouth.
National Highways reported delays of up to 65 minutes northbound and 20 minutes southbound. Traffic is being turned around southbound, with normal conditions not expected until 11.30pm. The incident is being handled by Avon and Somerset Police.
One driver reported being stopped for nearly two hours with no communication. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes and avoid the area if possible.
