Motorists are facing major delays on the M4 in South Wales following a broken down lorry that has forced two lanes to close. Emergency services are currently at the scene near Newport on the eastbound carriageway between junction 24 (Coldra) and junction 23A (Magor Services).

Two Lanes Closed for Lorry Recovery

As of 08:31 BST, two lanes have been closed between junction 24 and junction 23A to allow for the recovery of the broken down lorry. Delays are continuing to increase, with congestion now reported back to junction 27 (Highcross). Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes where possible.

Earlier Reports of Long Delays

Earlier, one lane was closed on the M4 eastbound between the same junctions due to the incident. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported: "Long delays and one lane closed due to broken down lorry on M4 Eastbound between J24 A449 (Coldra) and J23A A4810 (Magor Services). Congestion to J26 (Malpas Road). Lane two (of three) is closed."
