Footage from the scene shows a tent erected on the side of the road, indicating the severity of the crash. National Highways confirmed that the motorway is blocked in both directions while an air ambulance works at the scene.
Traffic Stationary Amid Extreme Heat
Traffic is stationary on the UK's busiest motorway during an ongoing heatwave, with temperatures approaching 30°C in the area. The road surface is likely to be several degrees hotter, adding to the discomfort for stranded drivers.
National Highways stated: 'Traffic is being held on the M25 clockwise at J6 Godstone due to a serious collision. Emergency services are on scene. There are delays in excess of 60 minutes and 6 miles of congestion on the approach.'
Air Ambulance and Emergency Response
The air ambulance from Kent, Surrey and Sussex is working at the scene. National Highways South-East tweeted: 'Traffic is being held on the #M25 in both directions at J6 #Godstone due to a serious collision. @airambulancekss are working at scene. As soon as the scene is deemed safe, traffic can be released. There are delays in excess of 30 minutes both ways.'
Metro has approached Surrey Police for more information. The cause of the collision has not yet been confirmed.
