Commuters on the M1 in Northamptonshire are facing severe delays this morning after a diesel spillage led to lane closures. Two of four lanes are shut on the southbound carriageway between junction 17 (Coventry) and junction 16 (Northampton).
Clean-up underway
Clean-up crews have been dispatched to the scene. National Highways reported on X: "Lanes 1 & 2 (of 4) are closed on the #M1 southbound in #Northamptonshire between J17 #Coventry & J16 #Northampton due to a diesel spillage. Clean up crews en route. Current delays of up to 30 minutes on the approach, with 3 miles of congestion."
Motorists are advised to expect significant delays and plan alternative routes where possible. The closure is expected to cause rush hour disruption for the morning commute.
