London Bus Fares Capped for Unlimited Weekend Travel This Summer

London bus and tram passengers will be able to travel all day on summer weekends for the price of a single fare, Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced. The Weekend Hopper fare, running from 25 July to 31 August, allows unlimited bus and tram journeys on Saturdays and Sundays for a single payment of £1.75 each day.

Transport for London (TfL) said the promotion will operate across six school holiday weekends, including the August bank holiday Monday, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Hopper fare. The standard Hopper fare already permits unlimited transfers within one hour, but the Weekend Hopper extends this to all-day travel on weekends.

Mayor Khan said: “I know how expensive the summer holidays can be for families, and my new Weekend Hopper – which is a whopper of a deal – will make it cheaper and easier for Londoners and visitors to enjoy all that our great city has to offer this summer.” He added that buses and trams are a “real lifeline” for many Londoners, and he is determined to keep them affordable.

The Weekend Hopper fare will be applied automatically when passengers tap in using the same card or device. However, additional travel on the Tube, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth line, London Cable Car or River Bus services will incur standard fares. TfL said customers have made more than a billion Hopper journeys since its introduction.

To promote the offer, buses on routes 23, 49 and 295 – which pass major landmarks – have been wrapped in a hopping frog design. London’s transport commissioner, Andy Lord, said: “The Hopper fare has helped revolutionise taking a bus or tram for many people over the last decade and we are delighted to be able to offer a Weekend Hopper fare this summer.”
