London Bus Fares Capped for Unlimited Weekend Travel

London bus and tram passengers will be able to travel all day on summer weekends for the price of a single fare, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced. Between 25 July and 31 August, a Weekend Hopper fare will allow unlimited bus and tram journeys on Saturdays and Sundays.

Weekend Hopper Fare Details

Transport for London (TfL) said: “When you use pay as you go on buses and trams, our Weekend Hopper fare will give you unlimited bus and tram journeys on Saturdays and Sundays for the price of a single fare each day.” The promotion will run across six school holiday weekends, including the August bank holiday Monday, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the TfL Hopper fare.

A single London bus fare is currently frozen at £1.75. Outside of the summer weekend promotion, the usual Hopper fares allow passengers unlimited bus and tram transfers within one hour for a single payment. According to the mayor, TfL customers have made more than a billion Hopper journeys.

How It Works

Passengers will find the Weekend Hopper fare automatically applied when they tap in using the same card or device. Additional travel on Tube, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth line, London Cable Car or River Bus services will cost a standard fare.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “I know how expensive the summer holidays can be for families, and my new Weekend Hopper – which is a whopper of a deal – will make it cheaper and easier for Londoners and visitors to enjoy all that our great city has to offer this summer. I know that buses and trams are a real lifeline for many Londoners, and I’m determined to keep them the most accessible and affordable mode of transport in the capital as we continue building a greener, fairer, better London for everyone.”

Promotional Campaign

Buses on routes 23, 49 and 295, which travel past some of the city’s major landmarks, have been wrapped in a hopping frog design to promote the Weekend Hopper offer. London’s transport commissioner, Andy Lord, added: “The Hopper fare has helped revolutionise taking a bus or tram for many people over the last decade and we are delighted to be able to offer a Weekend Hopper fare this summer to further help make public transport affordable and convenient for all.”
