Liverpool Airport Warning: Road Works Until July 3

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has issued a warning to passengers travelling this week and next, as overnight roadworks are set to cause disruption on key routes. The airport took to social media on Tuesday, June 23, to advise travellers to allow extra time for journeys due to improvement works at the junction of A561 Speke Boulevard and Speke Road.

Roadworks Schedule and Closures

The works, managed by Aureos under Liverpool City Council's Highways Planned Works Framework Lot 2, will take place from June 22 to June 26 and June 29 to July 3, between 8pm and 6am each evening. Road closures and diversions will be in effect during these hours. The north side of Speke Boulevard/Speke Road will be closed eastbound on June 22-23 and June 29-30. The south side will be closed on June 24-26 and July 1-3.

Diversions will be signed via Woolton Road, Hillfoot Avenue, and Woodend Avenue. Local routes will remain available for residents and deliveries. The works may also affect access to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Speke Industrial Estate, and local businesses.

Impact on Travellers and Commuters

The airport's team stated: "Improvement works along junction A561 Speke Boulevard/Speke Road will be taking place from 22-26 June and 29 June-3 July between 8pm and 6am each evening. Road closures and diversions will be in place at these times, so if you are due to travel to the airport during those hours, please allow plenty of time for your journey."

Aureos added: "As part of the resurfacing works for the Speke Hall Road project, we’ll be carrying out improvements at junction A561 Speke Boulevard/Speke Road over the next few weeks. To minimise disruption, works will take place overnight. This is a key route serving the airport, local businesses and city centre, so journeys may be affected even if you don’t live locally."

Advice for Passengers

The airport urged travellers to plan ahead: "Please allow extra time for travel — whether you're commuting, heading to work, or travelling for a trip. We’ll aim to complete works as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience while we carry out these essential improvements."
