Leeds Station Chaos as Signal Fault Prompts 'Do Not Travel' Warning

Passengers at Leeds station have been hit by major disruption after a signalling system fault led to cancellations and delays across multiple train operators. TransPennine Express, Northern, CrossCountry, and London North Eastern Railway services were all affected, with passengers advised not to travel.

TransPennine Express stated that all lines were blocked due to the fault, and services between Manchester Victoria and York via Leeds would not operate on 30 November 2025. The company strongly advised customers not to travel north of Manchester or through Leeds. Access to the station was restricted beyond the gates.

Although lines later reopened after Network Rail identified and repaired the fault, Northern warned of continued disruption as services returned to normal. Passengers were offered refunds due to the delays and cancellations.

Frustrated travellers took to social media to complain about a lack of information at stations. One passenger tweeted about the absence of staff at York to provide alternatives. LNER also reported disruption due to a separate incident involving a person being hit by a train between Edinburgh and Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Major disruption was expected to continue until at least 3pm. Passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more may be eligible for compensation.
