A sinkhole that appeared on a street in Gateshead has been repaired after police closed the road for emergency works. Joicey Road, located just off Durham Road in the Low Fell area, was blocked off on Wednesday as crews carried out repairs.

Police Direct Traffic as Repairs Underway

Police officers were at the scene directing traffic while the road remained shut for several hours. Photographs from the scene showed the extent of the hole as repair work progressed. The road was closed to ensure public safety and allow crews to fill the cavity.

Road Reopens After Repairs

By Thursday morning, the sinkhole had been fully repaired and Joicey Road was reopened for traffic. Chronicle Live has contacted both Gateshead Council and Northumbria Police for comment regarding the cause of the sinkhole and the timeline of repairs.
