Freight Movement Limited Rescued by Monex Distribution, Saving 61 Jobs in Newport
Freight Movement Saved by Monex, 61 Jobs Preserved

The collapse of a long-standing family-run transport firm has been swiftly averted through a strategic acquisition, preserving dozens of skilled positions and ensuring continuity for clients across the United Kingdom. Freight Movement Limited, headquartered in Newport, South Wales, has been purchased out of administration by Monex Distribution Ltd, securing the future of 61 employees and the company's extensive logistics operations.

Administration and Swift Rescue

Established in 1998, Freight Movement Limited faced mounting financial pressures that ultimately forced it into administration. On March 6th, 2026, the company's director appointed Huw Powell and Katrina Orum from BTG Begbies Traynor as Joint Administrators. The firm's insolvency was attributed to a combination of factors, including the closure of a key depot, escalating operational overheads, a backlog of unpaid invoices, and broader industry challenges.

Pre-Pack Administration Deal

However, within days of entering administration, a rescue package was secured. Monex Distribution Ltd, part of the family-owned Monex Group haulage network, executed a pre-pack administration arrangement to acquire the business and assets of Freight Movement. This acquisition includes an option on the company's substantial 50,000 square foot warehouse facility in Newport.

This rapid transaction was designed to achieve the optimal outcome for creditors while guaranteeing zero disruption to delivery services for existing clients. The pre-pack sale was deemed necessary due to severe cash flow issues at Freight Movement, ensuring the preservation of jobs and operational continuity.

Extensive Logistics Operations Preserved

During its operational peak, Freight Movement managed an extensive and diverse logistics portfolio. The company operated a large fleet across multiple sectors, including contract logistics, pallet network distribution, and general haulage operations. Its services ranged from handling small consignments to managing full truckloads across the UK.

The firm offered comprehensive logistics solutions, including on-demand shipments and next-day delivery options. Its client base spanned both major blue-chip corporations and smaller enterprises, with services extending throughout the United Kingdom. Through established partnerships, Freight Movement also facilitated operations across Europe and beyond.

Diverse Cargo Specialisation

Freight Movement's expertise encompassed a remarkably wide array of goods. The company regularly handled automotive and marine equipment, industrial machinery, construction materials, home furnishings, and garden furniture. Additionally, it managed more specialised cargo including fine art, toys, giftware, electrical items, and freight for exhibitions and live events.

Industry Challenges and Future Prospects

The haulage and logistics sector has faced significant headwinds in recent years, particularly following Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic. Industry-wide challenges include well-documented driver shortages and increased operational costs, which have made profitability particularly difficult for smaller businesses to achieve.

Despite nearly three decades of successful trading and navigating previous difficult periods, Freight Movement ultimately succumbed to these compounded pressures. The company's 26-year trading history and established network, however, made it an attractive acquisition target for a larger industry player.

Leadership Perspectives

James Howells, Group CEO at Monex Group Limited, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition: "We are very happy to have come to an agreement to acquire such an established company with a strong heritage and to preserve the many skilled employees at Freight Movement in the process. The Company has established a strong network over the course of almost three decades and we're looking forward to breathing life back into it by joining together our teams."

Howells added: "Under the Monex Group banner we fully believe there is significant potential within this business and it can grow once more. With its location in the UK and connections beyond, the new addition to our family makes us stronger and even more competitive."

Huw Powell, partner at BTG Begbies Traynor, commented on the sector's challenges: "The haulage sector has faced significant challenges post Brexit and COVID with well publicised shortages of drivers and increased costs making utilising capacity and achieving profitability hard to attain for smaller businesses. Despite 26 years of trading and previously seeing out difficult times over the years, Freight Movement has been unable to overcome these challenges, but we are delighted to have secured a sale to Monex Group."

Powell further noted: "As the company was experiencing severe cash flow issues, a pre-packaged sale was required to ensure this outcome whereby employee jobs have been preserved and clients should experience no disruption to services. As part of the Monex Group, the former employees and clients of Freight Movement are in good hands and we're sure we can see the business re-establish itself and grow in the future."

Administrative Acknowledgements

The administrators extended gratitude to various parties who facilitated the rapid transaction. They thanked Paul and Sam Hurley for their support, along with the leadership team at Monex Group for achieving the sale in minimal time. Additional thanks were given to Blake Morgan, Gavel Auctioneers, NP Linnells, and PME Consulting Services for supporting the company and administrators throughout the process. RDP Law, acting for Monex on the transaction, was also acknowledged for their swift actions in making the acquisition possible.

This successful rescue operation demonstrates how strategic acquisitions can preserve employment and maintain vital logistics services even when individual companies face insurmountable financial challenges. The integration of Freight Movement into the larger Monex Group structure offers renewed stability and growth prospects for the Newport-based operation and its workforce.
