A three-year-old ferret named Loki has been reunited with its owner after hitching a ride on a Nottingham bus. The brown and white animal escaped through a rip in the mesh of its hut and scampered two miles from its home in Bulwell.
Loki was spotted trying to board the No 77 bus in Strelley, leaving passengers unsure whether he was waiting to get on or had just alighted. Bus drivers Mitch Tuffield and Alex Underwood chased the ferret down the street, ducking in and out of shops, before capturing him.
Mr Underwood said he initially mistook the animal for a furry scarf. Mr Tuffield, who cornered the creature, had to call the depot to explain why the bus was running late. The drivers took Loki to kennels and launched an appeal via the Nottingham Post website.
Owner Carmen Metcalfe, 27, was frantic with worry, fearing Loki would be run over. She knocked on neighbours' doors and placed an appeal online. The drivers tracked her down, and the pair were reunited. Ms Metcalfe thanked them, saying her wandering pet was 'so pleased to be home.'
Loki, who gained a reputation for speed after winning a local ferret race earlier this year, has now been safely returned to his hut with a repaired mesh.
