Emergency services are currently investigating the scene of a serious plane crash in Essex after a light aircraft came down in a field near Mill Lane in Ongar at approximately 12:30pm on Tuesday, according to Essex Police.
Wreckage and Response
Photographs circulating on social media depict the tangled wreckage of the white aircraft, but authorities have not yet confirmed whether anyone on board has sustained injuries or fatalities. Officers remain at the scene alongside inspectors from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), which has classified the incident as an accident.
Essex Police have urged members of the public to avoid the area while emergency crews continue their work. The force stated it will provide updates on the condition of those aboard the aircraft later.
Community Reaction
A local resident told Metro: "There was a police car blocking off the road but nobody would tell us what happened. We couldn't see the plane from where we are. It is a good job it didn't hit any houses."
St Mary's Church in the village posted on Facebook: "Please join us in praying for everyone involved, for the emergency services responding and for all those in our local community who have been affected."

Detective Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin of Essex Police said: "This is a serious incident, and we understand it will cause concern in the local community. We are working closely with emergency service partners to respond and ensure the area is safe. There will be a visible police presence as we deal with this incident. We would ask residents to avoid Mill Lane while this work continues and thank them for their patience and understanding."
