Elizabeth line hit by signal failure causing rush hour delays
Elizabeth line signal failure causes rush hour delays

Commuters face another morning of travel disruption as a signalling fault at London Paddington causes severe delays and cancellations on the Elizabeth line.

National Rail said: ‘A fault with the signalling system at London Paddington means that Elizabeth line services must run at a reduced speed on some lines. As a result, Elizabeth line services to or from this station may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 10:00.’

Worst affected routes

The delays are the worst between Paddington and Heathrow Terminals T4 and T5, and Reading, the latest TfL travel status update shows. Transport for London said the route westbound from Paddington has severe delays ‘while we fix a signal failure in the Paddington area.’

Passengers can use tickets they already bought on the Underground, Great Western Railway (GWR) and South Western Railway.

Other lines affected

Meanwhile, the District line was reporting serious delays before being downgraded to minor status. This is affecting the stretches between Earl’s Court and Ealing Broadway, Earl’s Court and Kensington (Olympia), Earl’s Court and Richmond, and Upminster and Tower Hill.

Yesterday, passengers were caught up in travel chaos on the London Paddington route, caused by overrunning engineering works which had blocked some lines.
