A motorist has been criticised after being caught on dashcam driving along a pavement in Yarm to bypass traffic queues. The incident occurred at around 4.40pm on Friday, December 21, and was reported to Teesside Live by a local resident.
The witness, who was queuing in his car on the approach to the high street, described the driver as an 'idiot' who came 'tearing down the pavement, really fast, brakes hard, still on the pavement and turns into West Street'. The footage has sparked condemnation from other road users.
Meanwhile, shoppers flooded Newcastle city centre over the final weekend before Christmas, with up to 190,000 estimated to have passed through Eldon Square on Saturday alone. Thousands more were out on Sunday to pick up last-minute essentials.
