Thousands of train passengers are facing major disruption after a herd of cows wandered onto one of the UK's busiest railway lines, the West Coast Main Line, in Staffordshire. The incident was reported at 8:57am and has blocked the line between Lichfield Trent Valley and Rugeley Trent Valley for more than three hours, causing delays and cancellations.
Services affected
Avanti West Coast and Lumo services between London Euston and Scotland are among those disrupted, along with London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway services. National Rail Enquiries has warned passengers to expect disruption until 4pm.
Difficulties contacting farmer
The Press Association reported that there were difficulties contacting the farmer responsible for the animals. Tickets are being accepted on certain alternative routes as passengers are advised to check their journeys before travelling.
