The Caledonian Sleeper, a night train service between London and Scotland since 1873, now offers a route from London Euston to Inverness. Tickets start at £54 for a seat, but private rooms cost from £210, with the most expensive Caledonian Double Ensuite reaching up to £475. The journey takes around 12 hours, with the train splitting overnight to serve destinations including Fort William, Aberdeen, and Inverness.
A reviewer travelled from Euston to Inverness and back, booking a Club Ensuite room for £520 total for two. The experience began in the guest lounge at Euston, which offers free snacks, hot drinks, showers, and clean toilets. However, outside food is not allowed. The room featured a bunk bed, sink, toilet, and shower, but the narrow corridors and small luggage space required careful packing. The toilet door was not soundproof, and the beds were comfortable with charging ports and light switches.
The dining car, exclusive to room passengers, seats 30 and offers a small menu with two starters and four mains, including Macsween's haggis with neeps, tatties, and whiskey sauce for £14. Allergy options are limited. The reviewer noted that while the tartan-lined walls added a Scottish touch, the experience felt more like a cabin than a compact hotel room, especially compared to a five-hour first-class LNER train from London to Edinburgh starting at £109.
