Drivers in the seaside town of Caister-on-Sea are being warned to expect traffic disruption as a £52,000 road improvement project is set to close part of the High Street for about five days.
The resurfacing work is due to begin on Monday, November 9, with the project expected to take around five days to complete depending on the weather. The works will cover several areas along the High Street, including bus lay-bys on both sides of the road, a parking lay-by and the roundabout outside the Kings Arms pub.
Details of the roadworks
Norfolk County Council's Infrastructure Department and its contractors will carry out the work to replace the existing road surface, which has deteriorated over time. A temporary road closure will be introduced around the work area while the resurfacing takes place.
Motorists will need to follow a diversion route during the closure, although access to properties within the affected section will be maintained. Pedestrians will still be able to get through the area, with foot access remaining available throughout the works, the Eastern Daily Press reports.
Impact on parking and access
Drivers who use or plan on using the parking lay-by outside the East of England Co-op Food Store will have to make alternative parking arrangements for the duration of the project.
A spokesperson for Norfolk County Council said: "A diversion route will be in place for vehicles and access to properties within the closure will be preserved."
"Alternative bus stops will be provided during closure."
Caister-on-Sea is located just north of Great Yarmouth. Known for its beach, seaside attractions and historic Caister Castle, the village attracts visitors throughout the year.
