Belfast International Airport has announced a significant hike in its drop-off charges, with fees set to rise by 66 per cent starting Monday, 9 March 2026. The new rate will be £5 for a 10-minute slot, up from the previous charge of £3, marking a steep increase for motorists using the airport's facilities.
Penalty Charges and Cost Pressures
In addition to the higher base fee, the airport has confirmed that penalty charges of up to £60 will apply for drivers who exceed the 10-minute limit. This move is part of a broader strategy to manage operational costs and support ongoing investments.
The airport cited "significant cost pressures" as a key reason for the increase, noting that the new pricing structure is essential to fund its ambitious £100 million investment programme. This programme aims to enhance airport infrastructure and services for passengers in the coming years.
Alternative Parking Options for Motorists
For Blue Badge holders and other drivers seeking more affordable options, the airport recommends using the Short Stay Car Park, which offers 30 minutes of free parking. Alternatively, the Long Stay Car Park provides 15 minutes free for both drop-offs and collections, providing some relief from the increased fees.
This change at Belfast International Airport is not an isolated case. Other major UK airports, such as London Gatwick, have also recently implemented similar increases. Gatwick now charges £10 for drop-offs, reflecting a wider trend of rising costs in the aviation sector across the country.
