Alaska Airlines Introduces Revolutionary Dreamliner Business Class Suites
Alaska Airlines has announced a significant upgrade to its premium travel offerings with the launch of its first-ever lie-flat business class cabins. The new suites will debut on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft operating key long-haul routes from Seattle to Rome, London, and Incheon starting in spring 2026.
A Major Leap from Recliners to Private Suites
This development marks a substantial milestone for the carrier, which previously offered first-class recliners as its top-tier seating option. The transformation represents Alaska Airlines' commitment to competing on the global stage for premium transatlantic and transpacific travel.
The new business class configuration features a 1-2-1 layout ensuring every passenger has direct aisle access. Each suite comes equipped with a privacy door, creating a secluded environment for work or relaxation during long-haul flights.
Premium Amenities and Technological Enhancements
Passengers will enjoy numerous upgraded features designed to enhance the inflight experience. These include expansive 18-inch high-definition entertainment screens, wireless charging capabilities, multiple power outlets, and noise-reducing headsets for immersive audio experiences.
The sleeping arrangements have received particular attention with what Alaska Airlines describes as "premium bedding" developed in collaboration with Seattle-based outdoor brand Filson. The setup includes a plush mattress pad, sleeping pillow, lumbar/lounging pillow, and an oversized duvet for maximum comfort during rest periods.
Culinary Excellence and Destination-Inspired Dining
Alaska Airlines promises restaurant-quality dining experiences that celebrate both West Coast flavors and global destinations. The multi-course culinary journey begins with a sophisticated welcome service featuring artisanal cheese and charcuterie boards paired with an expanded beverage selection.
Guests can choose from up to six entrée options tailored to specific routes, including traditional stuffed chicken (pollo ripieno) on Rome-bound flights and gochujang chicken with traditional banchan on services to Incheon. A custom dessert cart offers Salt & Straw sundae service alongside other artisanal desserts.
Prior to arrival, passengers will enjoy destination-inspired meals such as a classic full English breakfast on London-bound flights, accompanied by appropriate beverage pairings.
Strategic Implementation and Fleet Integration
The new business class cabins have been retrofitted to Dreamliner aircraft acquired through Alaska Airlines' 2024 merger with Hawaiian Airlines. The configuration will also feature in all newly ordered Boeing 787-9 aircraft as the carrier expands its long-haul capabilities.
Service launches begin with Seattle to Rome flights starting April 28, followed by London routes commencing May 21, and Incheon services later in 2026.
Executive Vision for Premium Travel
Andrew Harrison, chief commercial officer at Alaska Airlines, emphasized the strategic importance of this development: "We set out to design a business class experience that is both sophisticated and authentically Alaska: premium, comfortable and thoughtfully created for our guests. When we debut our new product this spring, it will raise the bar and redefine long-haul travel, while continuing to deliver the remarkable care that sets Alaska apart on the global stage."
The introduction of these business class suites represents Alaska Airlines' most significant investment in premium travel to date, positioning the carrier to compete more effectively in the lucrative transatlantic and transpacific markets while maintaining its distinctive West Coast hospitality approach.
