The A1M southbound in West Yorkshire has been closed since 4am this morning following a police-led incident. National Highways confirmed the closure between junction 41 (M62) and junction 40 near Pontefract, causing significant delays and traffic disruption.
Emergency services, including West Yorkshire Police and the ambulance service, are at the scene. National Highways traffic officers are assisting with traffic management. The closure is expected to remain in place until around 1:15pm to 1:30pm on 26 March 2026.
A diversion route is in place for motorists approaching from the M62, signposted with a solid square symbol. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys or seek alternative routes.
National Highways stated: 'The A1M in West Yorkshire is closed southbound between J41 (M62) and J40 near Pontefract due to a police-led incident which occurred shortly after 04:00 this morning.'
