A major route in the North East has been shut down in both directions following a serious overnight collision. The incident occurred on the A19 in Tyne and Wear, leading to significant travel disruption for motorists on Saturday morning.

The collision happened at around 11pm on Friday night (5th December 2025). The affected section is between the A1058 Silverlink Roundabout, near Tynemouth, and the A1056 Killingworth Way at Killingworth. National Highways confirmed the closure extends to the A191 at Holystone.

- Exit the A19 northbound at the Silverlink Roundabout.
- Take the fourth exit onto the A1058.
- After a short distance, turn left onto Norham Road northbound.
- Follow Norham Road to the A191 roundabout and take the second exit onto the A191.
- Continue on the A191 through the next two roundabouts.
- At Holystone Roundabout, turn right to re-join the A19 northbound.
Motorists should follow the solid triangle diversion symbol. Southbound drivers are also affected and should seek alternative routes, expecting heavy congestion on surrounding roads.
