Winter Caravan Holiday Review: Why Devon Cliffs Exceeded Expectations
Winter caravan holiday review: Devon Cliffs surprises

When journalist Ben Whisson planned a three-night November getaway to Haven's Devon Cliffs Holiday Park with his wife and young son, he admits to feeling a touch of apprehension. The prospect of a British caravan park in the off-season conjured images of limited facilities and dreary weather. However, as the family arrived at the expansive site in Devon, those concerns were swiftly dispelled.

A Surprisingly Packed Itinerary of Activities

Before even arriving, the handy Haven app allowed the family to manage their booking and plan their days. Despite the quieter time of year, there was no shortage of options. The schedule featured a mix of complimentary and paid activities, ensuring there was something for everyone.

Highlights included a 'Make A Bear' party, an Aerial Adventure, the Football Fun Factory, and various Ranger Activities. A major draw for the family was the swimming facilities. With a Haven PlayPass, guests receive 14 sessions at the site's indoor pool during their stay, a feature that proved a huge hit and lived up to expectations.

Top-Tier Entertainment and Dining Options

Expecting scaled-back entertainment, Ben was thoroughly impressed by the vibrant offerings across the park's two venues. From morning until night, the programme was packed with full-scale pantomimes, karaoke, and a host of games for children and adults alike.

The entertainment team received special praise for their talent and engagement, becoming the absolute highlight of the holiday for many families. For dining, while their Emerald grade lodge was fully equipped for home cooking, the park offered a broad range of eateries including Slim Chickens, Chopstix, and Papa Johns. The site also boasts several bars, including a sports bar and even its own Wetherspoons.

Cosy Accommodation and Excellent Value

The family's accommodation was a spotless, well-presented Emerald lodge featuring two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a cosy lounge-kitchen area. It included parking for two cars and was a short stroll from the main amenities. A standout feature was the outdoor decking, which offered fleeting moments to enjoy a view of the Devon coast.

With direct beach access, a snug lodge, and an action-packed schedule, the park surpassed all expectations. The staff and entertainers successfully brought the sunshine despite the typical November rain. The experience proved that caravan holidays can offer brilliant family fun outside the peak summer months.

In terms of cost, four-night off-peak breaks in March and April start from just £99, based on staying in a Saver grade caravan. The Devon Cliffs park is set to reopen in March 2026. For those seeking alternatives, companies like Parkdean Resorts and Hoseasons also offer caravan holiday options.
