The fourth season of the Emmy-winning series The White Lotus has begun filming on the French Riviera, with locations including Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Monaco. Despite earlier speculation that the show might be set in Tanzania, Mexico or the French Alps, production has confirmed the Côte d'Azur as the backdrop for the latest instalment.
Unlike previous seasons, which were filmed at Four Seasons Resorts, season four will use two iconic hotels: the Airelles Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez—a chateau built in 1904—and the Hôtel Martinez in Cannes, a five-star palace on Boulevard de la Croisette known for its private beach and celebrity clientele during the film festival. Filming will also take place in Paris, but the story will remain set along the Côte d'Azur.
The season's narrative will unfold during a week of the Cannes Film Festival, exploring new themes. Creator Mike White has indicated that each season examines a different aspect of human experience: season one focused on money, season two on sex, and season three on spirituality and death. Season four will introduce a new group of guests, played by actors including Helena Bonham Carter and Steve Coogan.
Previous seasons have driven significant tourism to their filming locations. Season one was set at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea in Hawaii, season two at the San Domenico Palace in Taormina, Sicily, and season three at three Anantara resorts in Thailand—Anantara Bophut and Anantara Lawana on Koh Samui, and Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas. The show's third season aired in February 2025.
