Tranwell Farm Holidays Crowned UK's Premier Holiday Park Destination
An eco-friendly holiday park located near Morpeth in Northumberland has been officially named the Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year at the prestigious Destination North East England Tourism Awards. The ceremony, now in its 24th year, celebrated Tranwell Farm Holidays as the regional winner on March 19, recognising its exceptional offerings in a natural, family-run setting.
A Legacy of Family Care and Unique Accommodation
Situated on a farm that has been meticulously cared for by the same family for over six decades, Tranwell Farm Holidays has expanded its services since 2022 to provide a diverse range of glamping experiences. The park prides itself on its eco-friendly accommodation, seamlessly blending into the surrounding landscape. Guests can choose from various options, including traditional grass pitches for camping amidst lush meadows, spaces for caravans or campervans, a cosy shepherd's hut designed for two, a comfortable camping pod, and two woodland lodges. These lodges are enveloped by trees and feature private log-fired hot tubs, offering a luxurious retreat in nature.
Immersive Farm Experiences and Celestial Wonders
Beyond accommodation, the park offers unique interactive experiences that connect visitors with rural life. Guests can participate in sessions to meet and even bottle-feed the park's rare breed lambs, with opportunities to witness births during certain seasons. Additionally, the farm is set within an area designated as an official 'dark sky' zone, making it an ideal location for stargazing. To enhance this experience, the park provides stargazing kits for hire, which include binoculars, hot water bottles, and rugs, with telescopes also available for a deeper exploration of the cosmos.
Exploring the Local Area: Morpeth and Beyond
Less than a ten-minute drive from the park lies Morpeth, a historic market town characterised by the River Wansbeck flowing through its centre. Visitors can stroll along the traditional high street, which features a mix of chain stores and independent shops, or explore the indoor Sanderson Arcade with its upscale boutiques. Key attractions include Carlisle Park along the riverfront, Morpeth Court—a former court and gaol now housing an antiques centre and café—and the Morpeth Chantry. This medieval chantry house has been transformed into a bagpipe museum, often hosting live performances.
Nearby Beaches and Coastal Escapes
Northumberland is renowned for its long, unspoilt beaches, and several are easily accessible from Tranwell Farm Holidays. Approximately half an hour away, Blyth Beach offers a sand and shingle shoreline with a lengthy promenade and colourful beach huts. The waters here have been rated 'excellent' by local authorities, making it suitable for swimming or surfing under favourable conditions. A short drive further leads to Cambois Beach, a quieter sandy spot with picturesque sand dunes and footpaths. This beach is popular with dog walkers and anglers, who often fish for flounder and cod, providing a peaceful retreat with minimal facilities.
The award underscores Tranwell Farm Holidays' commitment to providing a holistic holiday experience that combines comfort, nature, and local culture, solidifying its status as a top destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
