As the UK experiences its first day in 100 days without temperatures forecast above 20C, many travellers are looking overseas for autumnal warmth. Jorgie Willingham, an assistant retail manager from TUI's Middlesbrough store, has shared her top five picks for cheap, sunny destinations this season.
"If you're still hoping to get away for some autumn sun, there are really good deals to be had across many of our hotels, with selected availability still remaining. Leaving your booking a little later doesn't mean you have to compromise on a great holiday, but it can make choosing the right hotel even more important. If you don't have time to trawl through hundreds of options, these are the hotels I'd recommend looking at, whether you're travelling with children, planning a couples' escape or looking for a holiday with great food and culture," Jorgie said.
Best for families – Dalaman, Turkey
Dalaman offers warm autumn sunshine, beautiful scenery and plenty to do beyond the hotel, including boat trips, day trips to Ancient Ephesus and white-water rafting. For families still looking for October half-term holidays, Jorgie recommends TUI BLUE Tropical, which features big pools, waterslides, kids' clubs for different ages and plenty of activities. October weather is 25C, with flights from Cardiff from £175.
Best for couples – Side, Turkey
Side is a favourite autumn sun destination with warm weather well into October and fewer crowds than peak summer. The TUI BLUE Barut Andiz is close to the beach and within easy reach of Side's historic old town, where evenings can be spent wandering the harbour, visiting ancient Roman ruins or enjoying dinner overlooking the sea. October weather is 26C, with flights from Cardiff from £114.
Best for long-haul – Zanzibar
Zanzibar offers white-sand beaches and turquoise water with a blend of African, Arab and European influences, vibrant markets and spice farms. TUI BLUE Bahari Zanzibar combines a beautiful setting with convenience and comfort, including the beach, big pools, restaurants, water sports, cooking classes and coconut-weaving. Zanzibar is being added to TUI's flying programme from November 2027, with direct flights from Gatwick (no Cardiff route) from £522. October weather is 31C.
Best for foodie lovers – Kos, Greece
Kos has a fantastic food culture, from family-run tavernas to vineyards, olive groves and fresh produce. TUI BLUE Oceanis Beach Hotel has its own organic farm producing fruit and vegetables for its restaurants, as well as its own olive oil and locally produced wines. October weather is 24C, with flights from Cardiff from £124.
Best for culture – Sorrento, Italy
The Sorrento Coast offers iconic sights like Pompeii, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, with autumn bringing eased crowds and warm weather. TUI BLUE Nastro Azzurro is a great base for exploring the area, giving guests somewhere comfortable to return to after a day of sightseeing. October weather is 23C, with flights from Cardiff from £127.
