A travel influencer has sparked controversy after branding Bologna the 'worst' city in Italy, claiming it is 'filthy' and smells of urine. Karo, who posts on TikTok as @karosolotravel, said she cut her holiday short and lost money by leaving early.
In a series of videos, she showed graffiti on bins and columns, a discarded cigarette, and a rough sleeper. She also held a tissue to her nose, complaining of a foul odour. 'It smells of urine everywhere,' she wrote. 'Why aren't the city authorities cleaning the streets?'
However, many TikTok users disagreed. One said: 'I spent five days in Bologna last April. TOTALLY DISAGREE. I LOVED BOLOGNA.' Another commented: 'Bologna is beautiful!' A resident noted that mass tourism was damaging the city.
Karo's criticism has drawn death threats, according to reports. The influencer remains unapologetic, insisting her experience was negative. Bologna is known for its UNESCO-listed porticoes and cuisine, including tortellini and tagliatelle al ragù.
