Travel Expert Reveals 4 Budget-Friendly May Holiday Destinations to Book Now
Travel Expert's 4 Cheap May Holiday Destinations to Book

With two bank holidays approaching, many Britons are eager to escape for a long weekend of guaranteed sunshine, and a travel expert has revealed four value-packed destinations he would personally book for May. Rob, known online as Rob On The Beach, has analysed weather data and live pricing to identify spots that offer hot weather without the peak summer costs.

Why May is the Perfect Time for a Budget Getaway

Rob emphasised that May is one of the best months for securing good weather at a fraction of the price. "May is easily one of the best value months for good weather at a pinch of a price," he stated. "Plus, the UK's fully into bank holiday season so you can stretch that annual leave a bit further, too." He added that he looked at data, weather patterns, and current pricing to find destinations he'd genuinely book himself, ensuring recommendations are both reliable and affordable.

4. Malta: A Sunny Island with Plenty to Explore

Starting the list, Rob highlighted Malta, an island country boasting 300 days of sunshine annually. "In fourth, Malta. This is one people are slowly catching onto now," he explained. "You're getting consistent mid-20s heat, loads of sunshine, but it's still not hit the peak pricing window yet in May." Beyond just lounging by the pool, Malta offers rich history and exploration opportunities. Rob found a deal from May 4 to May 9, with direct flights from London Luton and a stay at the St Julian's Levante, Affiliated by Melia hotel, priced at £240 per person.

3. Cyprus: A Safe Bet for Guaranteed Sunshine

Next, Rob recommended Cyprus, located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, known for its beaches and 320 days of sunshine per year. "This is your safe bet because in Cyprus in May, there's proper sunshine every single day and by mid May, you're well into the high 20s here," he said. He addressed safety concerns, noting that FCDO advice hasn't changed and operations are normal. A deal for a five-night stay at Hylatio Tourist Village in Paphos, with half board and flights from London Stansted, costs £280 per person from May 15 to May 20.

2. Dalaman, Turkey: Scenic Beauty and Great Value

In second place, Rob placed Dalaman in Turkey, famed for its award-winning beaches and Turquoise Coast views. He specifically recommended Fethiye, saying, "May is when I personally think it's at its best. You've got that perfect balance of temperatures in the mid 20s, proper sunshine all month and all without the peak pricing the peak level of tourists." A five-night all-inclusive stay at the five-star Club Tuana Fethiye, with flights from London Gatwick, is available for £350 per person from May 2 to May 7.

1. Albania: A Hidden Gem with Greek-Like Coastlines

Topping the list, Rob chose Albania, a Balkan country with vibrant coastlines and rich history. "Somehow, Albania is still flying under the radar - because here, you've got coastline that looks like Greece but prices that really do not," he remarked. In May, temperatures reach the mid-20s with plenty of sun and fewer crowds. A deal for four nights at Hotel Vola with breakfast and flights from London Stansted costs £175 per person from May 9 to May 14. Rob advised booking soon, as popularity may increase.

Rob concluded that these destinations offer exceptional value for a sunny May break, combining affordability with reliable weather. Whether seeking exploration or relaxation, these spots provide ideal options for budget-conscious travellers looking to maximise their holiday time.
