A woman who shares the "best London and global tips" on TikTok has named three English villages that are "just as pretty as the Cotswolds." Shruti Priya highlighted Lavenham in Suffolk, Wherwell in Hampshire, and Amberley in West Sussex as top destinations for a weekend visit.
Lavenham: A Tudor Treasure
Lavenham is a great location if you are a fan of the Tudors. With architecture dating back to the 1400s, this village is one of Britain's finest surviving medieval villages. It boasts more than 300 listed timber-framed buildings and gained fame as a filming location for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Getting to Lavenham from London by car takes just under two hours via the M11, while a train from Liverpool Street takes roughly an hour. Driving may be more practical, as Lavenham has no direct train station.
Wherwell: Quintessential Hampshire Charm
Visitors to Wherwell can wander the stunning streets and enjoy this quintessential village, renowned for its beautifully preserved timber-framed thatched cottages. It offers breathtaking views along the River Test, about 3 miles south of the town of Andover.
From London, driving takes roughly an hour and a half. Alternatively, a direct train from Clapham Junction to Winchester takes around 50 minutes.
Amberley: History and Natural Beauty
History fans will adore Amberley Castle, a 900-year-old fortress with high stone walls and a portcullis, now operating as a luxury hotel and wedding venue. From there, visitors can soak up natural beauty along the River Arun and must not forget Amberley Museum.
The drive from London is just under 2 hours (57.4 miles), and a train takes roughly an hour one way.
Social Media Reaction

One said: "Great looking places," while another added: "Can't wait to visit these beautiful places with my baby." Someone else commented: "Wherwell is beautiful, I knew someone who lived there in a beautiful cottage."
