The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice for British nationals planning to visit Thailand, a popular destination that attracts over 700,000 UK tourists annually. The FCDO continues to advise against all but essential travel to several areas in southern Thailand due to ongoing security risks.
Specifically, the warning covers the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and parts of Songkhla Province, including the districts of Chana, Thepa, Na Thawi, and Saba Yoi. The FCDO cites regular terrorist attacks in these regions as the primary concern, noting that targets may include security forces, government offices, tourist sites, hotels, shops, and transport infrastructure.
Additionally, the FCDO advises against all but essential travel on the Hat Yai to Padang Besar train line, which runs through the affected provinces. While security enforcement is heightened in most areas, the risk of attacks remains unpredictable.
Beyond the southern border, the FCDO also warns against all but essential travel within 50km of the entire Thailand-Cambodia border, including the islands of Koh Chang and Koh Kood. This follows renewed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia that began in July 2025, with tensions persisting as of December 2025. Several border-area tourist sites, such as the Khao Phra Wihan temple, remain closed, and land border crossings are suspended.
British travellers are urged to stay informed via the FCDO's latest travel advice and to exercise caution, particularly in areas with heightened security risks.
