Tenerife Named Europe's Sunniest Winter Destination with Over 850 Hours of Sunshine

Winter has arrived in the UK, bringing frost and snow, but those seeking warmer climates need not travel far. Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, has been named Europe's sunniest winter destination, boasting over 850 hours of winter sunshine and temperatures around 20-21°C in January and February.

While not warm enough for swimming, the weather is ideal for beach walks. Popular beaches like Playa de las Vistas and Playa de las Teresitas are quieter in winter, offering peaceful strolls. Playa Jardin, with its black volcanic sands, provides a unique backdrop for photos.

The mild climate also suits hiking and exploration, such as in Teide National Park or the island's botanic gardens. Winter offers excellent whale watching opportunities from November to May. Many hotels and restaurants remain open, though larger clubs and bars are closed for the season, giving the island a laid-back vibe.
