Sunbed Stampede at Spanish Hotel as Holidaymakers Race for Poolside Spots
Sunbed Stampede: Holidaymakers Race for Poolside Spots in Spain

More than 40 holidaymakers raced to claim sunbeds after queuing for an hour at a hotel pool in Salou, Spain, on the Costa Daurada. The stampede occurred as the poolside opened at 9am during a guest's week-long stay this month.

Tourist Captures Chaotic Scramble

Chris, a tourist from Glasgow, Scotland, filmed the rush and shared it on TikTok under the username ABC Man. He set the footage to music from the Benny Hill show. 'It was a manic race and scramble for the sunbeds surrounding the pool at the hotel,' he said. He added that people queued daily at the doors to place towels on sunbeds, then dashed back for breakfast before returning to swim.

Unfairness for Late Risers

Despite finding the scenes amusing, Chris noted the unfairness for guests who failed to wake early. 'Some people just rolled out of their bed, queued up, mad dashed to secure the bed then they were seen going back to their hotel rooms or off for breakfast. It doesn’t leave room for those who don’t queue for an hour,' he said.

Controversial Tactic Goes Viral

In a separate incident, holidaymaker Tom Caunce used a controversial tactic at a hotel in Mallorca. He applied itching spray to towels of 'repeat offenders' who disappeared for breakfast. The prank video garnered over 864,000 views and divided online opinion, with some supporting Caunce's 'playful payback'.
