Royal Caribbean has officially unveiled Hero of the Seas, the latest addition to its Icon of the Seas fleet, cementing its status as the largest cruise ship in the world. Set to launch from Miami in August 2027, this groundbreaking vessel promises an unparalleled blend of beach retreats, resort escapes, and theme park thrills all in one destination.
Unprecedented Aquatic and Dining Experiences
Hero of the Seas will boast the most pools ever recorded at sea, with nine distinct aquatic spaces catering to every preference. These include family-friendly areas, a new Caribbean-inspired pool, three adults-only options, and the largest swim-up bars on the ocean. The ship also features a record-breaking 28 dining venues, offering everything from gourmet meals to casual grab-and-go spots.
Thrilling Attractions and Family Adventures
At the heart of the ship's entertainment is Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea, which introduces two new family raft slides, including the first funnel raft slide ever seen on a cruise ship. Adventurers can also test their courage on Crown's Edge, a hybrid skywalk and zip line experience soaring 154 feet above the ocean, or catch waves on the FlowRider surf simulator.
For families, Hero of the Seas offers Adrenaline Peak, a rock-climbing wall, Lost Dunes mini-golf course, and sports courts for pickleball, basketball, and soccer. The expanded Surfside family neighbourhood includes Splashaway Bay, an aquapark designed for young children, with new water features to enhance the fun.
Innovative Dining and Accommodation Options
The dining lineup is a highlight, featuring the Orleans Parish Supper Club, a multi-course venue with live jazz, craft cocktails, and gourmet Cajun and Creole dishes inspired by the French Quarter. Royal Railway – Hero Station offers an immersive dining experience that transports guests by train car to new destinations through a blend of entertainment, food, and technology.
Families can enjoy hands-on cooking classes in a new venue within the Surfside neighbourhood, catering to all ages with recipes ranging from simple fun for little ones to advanced techniques. The AquaDome Market food hall returns with four new stall concepts, plus desserts at Crème de la Crêpe and fresh juices at Simply Pressed.
Luxurious Stays and Exclusive Features
Accommodation options are tailored for families, including the Ultimate Family Treehouse, a three-deck treehouse with a rooftop terrace, private whirlpool, and two main bedrooms each with their own bathroom and balcony. Other choices include the three-level Ultimate Family Townhouse with direct access to Surfside, Surfside Family Suites, and various suite categories.
Additional ship highlights include the Royal Promenade with restaurants, bars, and floor-to-ceiling ocean views, featuring the Pearl, the world's largest kinetic art sculpture. Central Park offers an open-air space lined with over 30,500 real plants, while new productions will debut at the Royal Theater, AquaTheater, and Absolute Zero, the largest ice arena at sea.
Itineraries and Executive Insights
Hero of the Seas will embark on seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean adventures from Miami, with every voyage including a stop at Royal Caribbean's exclusive destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas. Western Caribbean itineraries may visit Roatan, Honduras, and Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico, while Eastern Caribbean routes explore Philipsburg, St. Maarten, and Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean, stated, 'Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even further.
