Rock and Scallop seafood stall to open at Cardiff's HYS Food Hall
Rock and Scallop seafood stall joins Cardiff's HYS Food Hall

Streetfood stall Rock and Scallop, known for its huge seafood platters, boils and fresh produce, will become a new fixture at Cardiff's newest foodhall, HYS Food Hall. The outlet currently operates at Swansea's Albert Hall and Newport Market, and previously held a popular residency at seaside pub Three Golden Cups in Southerndown.

Signature seafood boils and platters

Rock and Scallop's signature dish is the seafood boil, served in generous trays and packed with lobster, king prawns, mussels, crab, scallops, corn and potatoes. Customers can choose from flavourful butters including signature garlic, Louisiana Cajun and Firecracker, alongside an extensive menu of fresh shellfish, signature scallop dishes, surf and turf combinations and generous sharing platters, with seasonal specials.

The stall joins Pizza Boyz and Sharkbite Burgers as the first traders revealed for HYS Food Hall, which is taking shape within Cardiff's historic High Street Arcade. The development will feature 14 independent kitchens, three bars and seating for approximately 650 people across two floors.

Founder and critical praise

Rock and Scallop was founded by Mathew Williams during lockdown. Travel writer Portia Jones previously sampled the seafood platters and described the food as "obscene" in a good way, writing: "Lobster tails were sweet and succulent with a subtle ocean flavour, not the rubbery afterthought you sometimes get at lesser seafood spots." She added: "Scallops were soft, clean, and perfect, like they had been lovingly poached in silk."

More traders are due to be announced in the coming weeks, while HYS Food Hall is targeting an opening in late 2026.
