River Tyne Cruises Return in Newcastle with The Canny Lass

Cruise trips on the River Tyne are set to resume in Newcastle next month, with the arrival of The Canny Lass. Tyne Cruises will launch operations on Friday, August 14, 2026, offering a variety of sightseeing excursions that aim to showcase the best of the North East.

Three Cruise Options Available

The Canny Lass, which arrived in Newcastle from Kent in June, has undergone transformation to prepare for its new role. The vessel will operate six days a week from City Marina, offering three distinct cruise options: a one-hour city cruise exploring Newcastle and Gateshead; a two-hour country cruise venturing to quieter, greener stretches of the Tyne; and a three-hour sea cruise heading towards the North Sea, passing historic shipyards and the Port of Tyne.

Ticket Prices and Launch Details

City and sea cruises will run on launch day, with tickets available on the Tyne Cruise website. Prices start at £9 for children and £18 for adults for the city cruise, £12 for children and £24 for adults for the country cruise, and £15 for children and £30 for adults for the sea cruise. Family tickets and concessions are also available.

According to Tyne Cruises, the new offerings move away from the pre-pandemic 'booze cruise' concept, focusing instead on sightseeing and cultural experiences. The cruises aim to highlight the region's industrial heritage and natural beauty.
