Pizza Boyz named first trader at Cardiff's HYS Food Hall
Pizza Boyz first trader at Cardiff's HYS Food Hall

Pizza Boyz, a family-run South Wales pizza business, has been announced as the first trader to join HYS Food Hall, a new food and drink destination in Cardiff city centre. The venue is set to open in late 2026 in the Grade II listed Castle Quarter Arcades, a key part of Cardiff's retail scene since the 1880s.

What Pizza Boyz brings to the venue

The family-run business will bring its popular pizzas to the new venue in Cardiff's historic High Street Arcade. Pizza Boyz is known for its authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas, handmade dough, and creative flavours.

Twins Delano and Ali Tortorella, born in Swansea, run Pizza Boyz. With their dad's Italian roots and mum's Welsh business sense, they have built a loyal following since starting out in a horsebox a few years ago. They later moved to a restaurant and takeaway on Walter Road, Uplands.

About HYS Food Hall

Loft Co, the company behind successful projects like Goodsheds in Barry, Newport Market, and Albert Hall in Swansea, is developing Cardiff's newest foodie destination. The new HYS Food Hall will have 14 independent kitchens and three bars across two floors, with space for around 650 guests.

The venue aims to be a “lively spot for food, drinks, and socialising, bringing together a wide range of independent food businesses under one roof”.

Pizza Boyz's story and menu

The team has earned rave reviews from customers and is passionate about traditional Neapolitan pizza, making their dough fresh in-house using their own perfected recipe. Each pizza is hand-stretched and made to order with authentic Italian techniques, fresh ingredients, and creative flavour combinations.

Pizza Boyz offers classic favourites, inventive toppings, vegetarian and vegan options, and flavour-packed sides. This variety has helped them build a loyal following across South Wales. What began as a small family venture has grown into a popular food business, with locations including its flagship restaurant on Walter Road in Swansea, Newport Market, Swansea Albert Hall, and Founders Co.

Family roots and tribute

The business also has strong family roots, with ties to Villaggio Tortorella in Campania, southern Italy, and to Wales, their mother's homeland. The Pizza Boyz website states: "The Tortorella family line can be traced way back to a little village called Villaggio Tortorella in the Campania Region of southern Italy."

After losing their mother to cancer in 2017, the family committed to building a business she would be proud of. The website reads: “Our Mum is our biggest inspiration, she made our childhood happy and we adored her. We sadly lost her in April 2017 to Cancer. Her wish was for us to work as a family business and most of all, like any Mum, to be happy in whatever we do. Naturally, the Pizza Boyz is our tribute to her and our mission is to be happy and make others happy too.”

Today, Pizza Boyz honours her memory by bringing people together over good food and donating part of its annual profits to cancer research charities.

What's next

Pizza Boyz's arrival at HYS Food Hall marks another exciting chapter for the business as it gets ready for its much-anticipated launch. This is the first in a series of exciting trader announcements planned for the coming weeks, as anticipation grows for the venue's opening in late 2026.

HYS Food Hall will share more details about the independent trader line-up, behind-the-scenes updates, and the official opening date on its social media channels.
