Norwich named best UK city for rainy day trips

Norwich has been named the best UK city for a rainy day out, according to new data from The Co-operative Bank. The East Anglian city scored 8.46 out of 10, beating 29 other UK cities ranked on their indoor attractions, tourist ratings, and entry costs.

What makes Norwich stand out

The experts analysed 30 UK cities, ranking them on the number of indoor attractions such as museums, cinemas, escape rooms, bowling alleys and art galleries, how well tourists rate them, and the cost of entry to each city's most popular indoor attractions. Norwich came out on top with more than 100 indoor attractions, many of which are highly rated on TripAdvisor.

Visitors can explore the historic Royal Arcade, a Victorian Art Nouveau canopy housing quirky boutiques, or head to Norwich Market, one of the oldest and largest open-air covered markets in the country, offering street food from artisan hog roasts and curries to warm churros.

Heritage and attractions

Norwich Castle, a 900-year-old fortress perched on a grassy hill, offers hours of entertainment. Nearby, Norwich Cathedral provides dry walkways alongside medieval vaulted ceilings and is free to visit. One Tripadvisor reviewer said: "A beautiful and stunning place of worship, well worth visiting! The cathedral is wonderfully well kept, peaceful, and steeped in history."

The city's food and drinks scene also thrives on rainy days, with cosy pubs like The Adam and Eve, thought to be the oldest pub in the city, offering log fires and locally brewed real ales. For fine dining, Roger Hickman's and Benedicts serve high-end and modern British comfort dishes.
