Lanzarote has been named one of Europe's top 10 best holiday destinations for October, thanks to its warm temperatures, sandy beaches and affordable flights from the UK.
The Canary Island still enjoys daytime temperatures of 25-27C, with sea waters warm enough for swimming. Evenings cool to about 18-19C, so light layers are recommended. The warmth extends well into winter, making the Canaries a year-round favourite.
Beaches and Accommodation
Playa de Papagayo is the island's highest-rated beach on TripAdvisor, praised for golden sands and turquoise waters, though visitors face a dusty, bumpy road and sand dunes to reach it. Playa Blanca follows closely, offering soft sands, azure waters and a nearby port and marina.
Popular resorts include ILUNION Costa Sal Lanzarote, H10 Suite Lanzarote Gardens, Iberostar Selection Lanzarote Park, and Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort. Budget options like MAGMA Rooms Lanzarote and Apartments Agua Marina Lanzarote offer rooms under £100 a night outside half term dates.
Flights and Rankings
Skyscanner shows flights from 12 UK airports with fares under £30 each way for two adults outside half term. Examples include £17 from Liverpool, £19 from London, £21 from Bristol and £24 from Manchester. During half term, the cheapest family flights for four were from Bristol at £148pp each way.
The Solmar Villas study ranked 105 destinations by weather and affordable flights, placing Lanzarote sixth. Cyprus led with four spots in the top ten, Greece had three, Spain two, and Malta one. The full top 10 includes Ayia Napa, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Athens Riviera, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Rhodes, Kos and Malta.
