A 13-year-old girl has died after falling from an abandoned hotel in Tenerife, a popular tourist destination. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at the disused Hotel Añaza in Santa Cruz, a 20-storey building that has stood empty for more than 50 years.
The teenager was playing with friends when she is believed to have fallen from the fifth floor onto rocks below. Three other children raised the alarm, and police officers at the scene attempted to resuscitate the girl, but she was pronounced dead.
Hotel Añaza, known locally as the “Añaza monstrosity”, is awaiting demolition and has open lift shafts and windows. The building has been the site of four previous fatalities, making this the fifth death at the cliff-top property.
Police believe the girl lived in the Añaza area, but her nationality has not been released. The National Police Homicide Unit has launched a full investigation into her death.
Local residents have expressed anger and called for urgent action to secure the building, which has long been considered a danger.
