Flight Attendant Reveals Genius Hotel Shower Cap Hacks
Flight Attendant's Shower Cap Hacks for Hotels

A KLM flight attendant has shared innovative travel tips for making the most of hotel shower caps, revealing they have far more uses than simply keeping hair dry.

Three Unexpected Uses for Shower Caps

Dutch flight attendant Esther Sturrus, who works for KLM from the Netherlands, regularly posts travel advice on her TikTok account @esthersturrus. In a recent clip, she demonstrated three handy ways to use a shower cap in a hotel room.

Her first suggestion was to cover the television remote control with a shower cap, noting that "these are dirty." She also recommended using a shower cap "to stop the dripping noise from the shower at night" and "to protect your shoes in your suitcase."

Reactions from Travel Enthusiasts

Fellow users and travel enthusiasts quickly commented on the video. One person wrote: "Never knew this hack - very useful. Great as always!"

Travel specialists at styledegree highlighted additional inventive uses for shower caps while on holiday. They explained: "If you have a bowl of leftovers and want to protect flies away from your food, snap a shower cap over the bowl to use it as a lid cover."

Other uses include serving as a swim cap, storing beachwear, preventing liquids from leaking, holding dirty laundry, or shielding a phone during rainy weather.

Why Do Hotels Provide Complimentary Shower Caps?

Deborah, a former hotel employee, clarified on the social media platform Quora: "People used to wash their hair less often so shower caps were more frequently used and were expected."

Nowadays, some hotels no longer automatically provide them but keep them available upon request. Deborah explained: "Lots of people like to shower but don't want to get their hair wet - maybe they want to make a blow out or another hairstyle last longer, for instance."

She added: "But some hotels still have them in the rooms. It's not that costly to keep them in there, because they are pretty inexpensive and because many of them are never opened so they don't have to be replaced daily."
