World's First Bluey Rollercoaster Set to Launch at Alton Towers
British enthusiasts of the beloved Australian cartoon dog, Bluey, have only a month remaining until the inaugural global rollercoaster based on the animated series debuts in the United Kingdom. Derbyshire's renowned theme park, Alton Towers, has been teasing details about this brand-new attraction, named Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies!, for several months. It has now been officially confirmed that the ride will open on March 28th, situated within the park's CBeebies Land area.
Giant Bean-Can Artwork Unveiled in Celebration
To mark the upcoming launch, Alton Towers recently revealed a colossal portrait of Bluey, crafted from over 11,000 cans of beans. Displayed on the park's expansive lawn, the artwork measures an impressive 20 by 15 metres and required 18 hours to complete. The portrait depicts Bluey in her cherished 'granny' disguise, wearing a red headscarf, a nod to the popular 'Grannies' episode where Bluey and her sister Bingo dress up as the mischievous characters Janet and Rita, known for slipping on beans.
Howard Ebison, vice president of Alton Towers Resort, expressed excitement about the ride, stating it celebrates 'energy, play and those everyday moments families love about the show'. He added that creating the giant Bluey from bean cans was a perfect way to count down to the opening day, as the 'Grannies' episode is a fan favourite.
Natasha Spence, events director of Live Entertainment at BBC Studios, highlighted the connection between beans and the show, noting that fans associate beans with Bluey and Bingo's granny disguises. She praised the imaginative artwork for bringing this on-screen detail to life and celebrating the ride's imminent opening.
Ride Details and Additional Bluey Experiences
Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is specifically designed for pre-schoolers and young families, taking them on a journey through Bluey's Backyard. Last month, Alton Towers released an animated depiction of the coaster, showing a train with Bluey and Bingo at the front, likely seating two per cart and featuring lilac and blue colours.
Beyond the rollercoaster, Bluey fans can already enjoy other themed experiences at Alton Towers. The park regularly hosts Bluey Live events, where characters like Bluey, Bingo, and their parents Bandit and Chilli interact with guests during the Big Fun Showtime. Additionally, the resort has announced plans to introduce more Bluey-themed hotel rooms at the CBeebies Land Hotel, offering extended immersive experiences for visitors.
This new attraction underscores Alton Towers' commitment to family-friendly entertainment, blending innovative rides with creative celebrations to engage audiences of all ages.
