A woman from Southwick has been left stranded in Gran Canaria with her two children after EasyJet cancelled their flight, putting her house sale in jeopardy. Suzanne Trainer was already at the airport on Monday when the cancellation occurred, and the family is now rebooked on a flight arriving shortly after midnight on Friday, just hours before she is due to complete the sale.
Ms Trainer expressed fears that the Thursday flight might also be cancelled amid widespread travel disruption. She told BBC Radio Sussex: 'We're legally contracted now to complete on our house sale on Friday. We've got the removals booked and everything. We have to be out of here and home.' She described the situation as 'unimaginable' and noted that she had started a new job the week before her trip, requiring understanding from her employer.
EasyJet apologised for the cancellation and stated that customers were offered rebooking or refund options, as well as hotel accommodation. The airline said: 'Nonetheless, we fully understand the disruption this will have caused to their plans and we are very sorry for this.' It confirmed it would reimburse Ms Trainer's extra expenses.
