Countryfile star Adam Henson has named his favourite Cotswolds villages, and Castle Combe – often hailed as England's prettiest – did not make the cut. The farmer and TV presenter, who was born and raised near Guiting Power in Gloucestershire, told the Oxford Mail that Burford and Chipping Campden are among his top picks.
Henson praised Burford's High Street and described Chipping Campden as “really, really lovely”. He added that the Cotswolds has retained its charm despite tourism, noting the beauty of Cotswold stone and oolitic limestone in modern buildings. He said development is acceptable if done sensitively.
Castle Combe in Wiltshire is regularly described as the region's most picturesque village. Big 7 Travel called it “England's prettiest village” and said its charm is “unmatched”. However, Henson's list omits it entirely, highlighting his personal preference for other locations.
Henson also expressed his love for the Yorkshire Dales, where his son works as a financial adviser in Leeds. He said the countryside there is “gorgeous” and a different type of beauty. He revealed plans to move to a bungalow in Winchcombe when his farm tenancy ends in 12 years, as neither of his children is interested in farming.
