Two Scottish holiday lets have been named among the best in the UK at the 2026 Sykes Gem Awards. Bramble Cottage in Perthshire took the gold award for Best in Scotland, while the Clocktower at Culzean Castle was named Best Historical Property.
Bramble Cottage wins Best in Scotland
Sitting on their farm at Wester Essendy, Perthshire, Bramble Cottage is owned by Colin and Julia Grant. Having been in the farming business for 40 years, the couple created the holiday let for some additional income, with the first guests welcomed in summer 2024.
Over the past two years it has become widely popular with visitors who are looking for a relaxing getaway in the sprawling countryside. Featuring a patio and fire pit for colder evenings, as well as a barbecue for long summer nights, the cottage is pet-friendly and even features an outdoor dog wash for pets who like to have a little too much fun in the mud.
Surrounded by walking routes, this stay is ideal for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and explore the quiet of Scotland's more rural locations.
Clocktower at Culzean Castle takes historical award
Meanwhile, for those always dreaming they could stay in a castle when they were younger, this can become a reality with the Clocktower on the grounds of Culzean Castle. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde, the castle was designed by renowned architect Robert Adam and has been owned by the National Trust for Scotland since 1945.
Originally home to the castle's staff and tenants, the Clocktower opened its doors to first guests in 2022. During their stay, guests can enjoy a complimentary tour of Culzean Castle while also enjoying the views of the striking building and its private garden. Many of the original aspects of the tower have been repaired through dedicated conversation work for a truly historic stay.
Awards recognise unique holiday lets
The awards have been running since 2017 and highlight some of the UK's most unique, highly rated and memorable holiday lets. Judged by a panel of industry experts from Sykes Holiday Cottages, along with Reach PLC travel editor Julie Delahaye, these two Scottish lets were found to be among the best of the best.
Each of the winning holiday lets were selected by using owner entries and guest feedback, as well as details such as occupancy figures and property amenities.
Owners of Bramble Cottage, Colin and Julia Grant, said: "We’re absolutely delighted to have won gold for Best in Scotland. Having farmed here for 40 years, creating Bramble Cottage has helped us secure the future of our business while sharing this beautiful part of Perthshire with visitors."
