A British tourist has been found dead in a hostel in Bali, Indonesia, after reportedly pleading with staff to change his room the night before. The 32-year-old man had told a friend he was feeling unwell before retiring to his room at the lodging in Badung Regency.
A cleaner discovered the man's body at around 12:30pm on Friday when she entered the room to clean it, as the guest had requested a room change. The cleaner became suspicious when the man had not woken up past noon and alerted hotel staff, who called the police.
“The witness tried to clean the room because the victim had actually wanted to move rooms. It was his own request the day before. The witness knocked on the room wall several times but there was no response,” a Badung Police spokesperson said. “Suspecting something unwanted had happened in the room, she tried to open the curtain and was shocked to see the victim lying face down.”
Police reported no signs of violence on the body. The hotel receptionist confirmed the Briton had asked for a room change the previous night. A post-mortem examination is underway to determine the cause of death.
The Foreign Office stated: “We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Indonesia and we are in touch with the local authorities.” No further details about the man, including his UK origin, have been released.
