A British father and his two children have died after drowning in a swimming pool at a holiday resort in the Costa del Sol. The incident occurred on Christmas Eve at Club La Costa World near Fuengirola, according to a statement from holiday operator CLC World Resorts and Hotels.
The victims were a 52-year-old father, his nine-year-old daughter, and his 16-year-old son. The father and daughter are British, while the son is American. It has been reported that the girl got into difficulties in the water, and her brother and father attempted to rescue her.
Tanya Aamer, 23, from Birmingham, who was staying at the resort, described seeing “bodies covered in white sheets” by the pool and hearing “a woman crying aloud”. She said: “The atmosphere as I was walking past is indescribable.”
CLC World Resorts and Hotels said management were assisting authorities “fully” with the investigation. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed it was offering assistance to a British woman following the incident. Police divers have been inspecting the pool, including the pump, to determine the cause.
