An 11-year-old British girl has died after being found unresponsive in a hotel swimming pool in Fuerteventura, Spain. Francesca Mae Blease, from Crewe, Cheshire, was discovered in the pool on August 7, an inquest has heard.
Coroner's officer Paul Downey told the hearing that Francesca was taken to a hospital in Gran Canaria, where her life support machine was switched off on August 8. Coroner Victoria Davies formally opened an inquest, stating that due to the unnatural cause of death, a full inquest will be held on January 27.
The tragedy is the latest in a series of incidents involving British children in Spain this summer. Earlier, a five-year-old British girl died after being found unconscious in a pool, and siblings Ameiya, 13, and Ricardo Junior, 11, from Birmingham, drowned at sea in Salou.
