Sainsbury's, Tesco, Amazon, eBay issue urgent product recalls

Multiple supermarkets and online retailers have issued urgent recall warnings for a range of products. Customers are being asked to check affected codes carefully, as some items should not be returned to the store where they were purchased.

The risks vary widely: beer cans that may explode, chocolate contaminated with salmonella, and children's play sand that could contain asbestos are among the concerns. Shoppers are advised to stop using any affected product and follow item-specific instructions, checking product names, pack sizes, and reference numbers against the details below. Refund arrangements differ on an individual basis.

Lucky Saint beer: do not open or return the cans

Lucky Saint is recalling its Hazy IPA because some cans may become over-pressurised and explode unexpectedly. The beer is sold in Tesco and Sainsbury's in packs of 4 x 330ml cans, with a best-before date of "End of August 13 2027".

Customers must not try to open or drink the beer. They should take proof of purchase to their nearest store for a full refund but must not return the cans themselves. The disposal advice is to handle the cans as little as possible, carefully place them upright in a sealed bag, and put them in household waste.

Dubai-style chocolate: Salmonella found in two products

World of Sweets is recalling two Alyan chocolate products after Salmonella was found in them. All best-before dates are affected for the Alyan Dubai Style Chocolate Truffles (product code 319456, pack size 120g) and the Alyan Dubai Style Crunchy Knafeh and Pistachio Milk Chocolate (product code 318591, pack size 100g).

Do not eat either affected product. Keep the chocolate and its packaging separate from other food. If you ordered directly from World of Sweets, contact its customer service team with your order number and the number of affected units; the team will explain the next steps. Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should stay away from work, school or nursery until they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours to help prevent the illness from spreading.

eBay vacuum cleaner: missing identification details

A Storm Trading cordless handheld/stick vacuum cleaner sold through eBay is being recalled. Described as a "four-in-one" product, it comes with a floor brush, crevice tool, brush tool, telescopic extension tube and washable HEPA filter.

The vacuum was sold without the required manufacturer and importer identification details, including the manufacturer's postal address and the UK importer's name, registered trade name or trademark, and postal address. Its CE marking was also smaller than the minimum required size. The model is GHA-585, barcode 50004300047679, eBay item number 226383807216, sold by eBay seller Storm.Trading (JD Europe). The supplier has contacted affected customers directly. Owners should stop using the vacuum and contact the eBay seller about a refund, repair or replacement.

Amazon sandbox toy: possible asbestos contamination

YongnKids has recalled its Theme Scene Sandbox Toy Kit, sold through Amazon, because the sand may contain a small amount of asbestos. The prohibited substance poses serious health risks, even at minimal levels of exposure. The brand is YongnKids, ASIN BODPQ5M3P3, Amazon barcode X0026TZ9ZR.

The local authority is demanding that the products be withdrawn from consumers and that imports be turned away at the border. Stop using the kit immediately and keep it away from children. Unused or packaged sand should be double-bagged, securely taped, labelled and stored out of children's reach before being returned to the retailer for a full refund. Where sand has already been used, the clean-up advice is to wear gloves and a mask and use damp cloths to avoid raising dust. Keep other people away until cleaning is finished, then double-bag all materials used during the clean-up.

JD Williams dining set: table legs could detach

JD Williams is recalling its Antonia Space Saving Dining Set because a loose bracket could allow the table legs to detach from the tabletop, creating a risk of injury. The brand is JD Williams, model UK326.

The supplier has contacted affected customers directly. If you own the set and have not been contacted, stop using it immediately and get in touch with the supplier about a refund, repair or replacement.

Sainsbury's tote bags: chemical risk prompts recall

Three Tu shopper bags have been recalled because they contain excessive levels of phthalates. These chemicals could pose a health risk to children, potentially damaging the reproductive system.

The affected bags are the Tu Pu Tan Curved Top Shopper (SKU 147160009, item number 147160412), the Tu Black Croc Winged Tote Bag (SKU 147165985, item number 147166081), and the Tu Brown Belt Handled Core Shopper (SKU 147789683, item number 147789704). Customers should stop using the affected bags straight away and return them to their nearest Sainsbury's or Argos store for a full refund.
