Trespass, the outdoor clothing and footwear retailer with around 300 branches, will shut its store at Aylesbury Friars Square Shopping Centre on Sunday 18 May. The closure follows a closing-down sale launched to clear remaining stock.
The decision has disappointed regular customers. One shopper said: "It's a shame – we've bought hiking gear and waterproofs here for years. Not sure where we'll go now." Another added: "Great service from the team in Aylesbury! Great products and quality. From shirts and boots to all weather gear. Wouldn't go anywhere else."
The move is part of a wider cost-cutting strategy prompted by declining customer numbers. Last year, Trespass closed at least 12 stores, including branches in Coventry, Norwich and Middlesbrough, and confirmed six further closures in 2023.
Aylesbury has already lost several retailers this year, including Dobbies garden centre and Marshall Motor Group in March. The latest closure adds to a broader trend on the high street, with WHSmith shifting focus to travel venues, Santander reducing its branch network and Morrisons closing cafes and counters.
It is not yet known how many jobs will be affected by the Trespass closure. The company continues to operate many other branches across the UK.
