A bride-to-be has described her dismay after discovering her fiancé's parents had booked a holiday at the same resort where the couple plan to spend their honeymoon.
The woman, who shared her story on Reddit, said she had spent considerable time choosing an offbeat destination that she felt would be a romantic start to married life. She said she had been looking forward to it being just the two of them.
However, after the couple finalised their plans, her partner revealed that his parents had been so impressed by her enthusiasm for the destination that they had decided to go there themselves, with dates largely overlapping the honeymoon. The bride admitted she was 'livid' and questioned why they could not go at another time.
Her fiancé reassured her that his parents had promised to do their own thing and not intrude on the honeymoon. But the bride said she was sceptical, describing her future mother-in-law as 'clingy' and prone to lamenting the distance between them.
After seeking advice from her own parents, she found her mother agreed the in-laws' plan was inappropriate, while her father saw no major issue. A heated exchange with her fiancé led to an apology from her, but many Reddit commenters sided with the bride, with some suggesting she was 'underreacting' and that the only way to guarantee an in-law-free honeymoon would be to change plans altogether.
