A British expat living in Benidorm has issued a stark warning to tourists about two common mistakes that could lead to serious injury or financial liability. Frank, known online as Frank the Stag Man, shared his advice on TikTok after witnessing a woman being hit by a car while crossing the street.
Frank emphasised that Spanish roads operate differently from those in the UK. Firstly, drivers in Benidorm do not always stop at zebra crossings without traffic lights, contrary to the legal requirement. He advised pedestrians to wait and ensure traffic has stopped before stepping onto the crossing.
Secondly, tourists often forget that traffic in Spain drives on the right side of the road, meaning they must look left first when crossing. Looking the wrong way can lead to accidents, and if a pedestrian is deemed at fault, they could be liable for damages to the vehicle involved.
Frank urged visitors to be vigilant: 'Don't assume that cars will stop, because it just doesn't work that way. And always look the right way as well when you're crossing the road.' He stressed that following these simple rules could keep tourists safe and avoid costly hospital bills.
